Project Roundup

I’ve used this metallic ribbon for curtain ties since I made these curtains a good few years ago now, and they’re getting a bit ratty.

Close-up of a curtain, gathered and tied with a ribbon. The curtain is various shades of purple, and the ribbon is a plastic-y metallic silver. The background is blurred.

I came across this video about making medieval braid, and thought that I could use this technique to make nicer curtain ties, like this!

Two coils of square braid sit on a wood surface. The braids are made of grey yearn with sequins in, and each end is knotted. The sequins shine in the sunlight.

I used spare yarn from an old crochet project, and I reckon it worked a treat.

Close-up of the same purple curtain, now tied with one of the square braids. The light picks up the sequins in the yarn.

In future, I’d look at making it slightly less chunky; I think part of that is the fuzziness of the yarn I used, as well as the weight of it. Perhaps thread would work differently?

Hazel stands against a white brick background, holding her pink checked pinafore to her front. The pinafore only has two small tucks in the front. She looks at the camera, and wears a grey cardigan and wool skirt. Her braids are down her back.

Remember this checked pinafore of Hazel’s? She tells me that there isn’t enough volume in the skirt – which is totally understandable. What is the point of a skirt if not for dramatic twirling purposes?

Hazel wears the checked pinafore, smiling at the camera. The skirt of the pinafore is much more voluminous, with multiple pleats visible. Hazel leans forward slightly, and has her hands on her uper thighs.

I added an extra panel in the front and two slimmer panels at the back, and now it’s lovely and full!

Hazel has added her grey cardigan over the top of her pinafore, and snuggles into it as she smiles at the camera.

Much better for twirling in.

Overhead shot of some pattern pieces, pinned to a dark pink piece of fabric. The fabric is laid on a wooden table, and scattered around is a tape measure, a pin tin, some more folded fabric, and fabric scissors.

I did also cut out some interesting things this morning, which will show up here again….. soon-ish.

Anyways, see ya!
