Handmade from Head to Toe

As the summers where I live are long and hot, I thought I’d get a headstart on keeping cool in this sweet little shirt:

The author stands against a pale blue wall, photographed form shoulders to thighs. She wears a loose short-sleeved green linen shirt with floral cotton pants. She has her hands clasped in front of her, and her body is angled away from the camera slightly.

I drafted the pattern myself, from a book called Sewing Love by Sanae Ishida. This is the button-down V-neck top from said book, and the first time I’ve made this pattern.

The author stands in front of a pale blue wall, photographed from shoulders to thighs. She faces away from the camera with arms outstretched. She wears the green linen shirt untucked from her pants, and the camera can see the plain back of the shirt.

Instead of adding buttons, I sewed the button plackets together, leaving a little at the top free so I can get my head in.

Closeup of the V-neckline of the shirt. The shirt is sewn closed at the centre front, with a small amount at the top unsewn. The neckline sits quite close to the neck, with nothing showing through the unsewn bit.

I also added a little ribbon loop, as I will need to hang this from hooks in its lifetime!

Closeup of the back neck area of the shirt, taken with the shirt laid flat on a wood surface. Sewn onto the inner back neck is a square of the same linen with a piece of thin green ribbon sewn to it.

The linen is, again, from The Fabric Store, and I bought four different colours so I could make a bunch of these to rotate throughout summer.

I had no idea what the fit would be like, because I drafted the pattern myself, so I am so happy this worked! (Especially for my first shirt, too!)

I love the high neckline, and the linen feels so light and airy. I can’t wait to get stuck in to the rest of these shirts!

Anyways, see ya!
