Easter Experiments

Nearly there…..

A square of yellow felt is on a wood background. On the felt is an appliqued egg shape in dark green, with appliqued and embroidered details on top.

…and done! This is a tutorial from a magazine called Love Embroidery, and the tutorial was by Chloe Redfern. I love her little embroidered animals, so I wanted to get a feel for her style with this little decoration.

The applique egg from the last image is now complete. The excess yellow felt has been trimmed away, and the egg has been stuffed and given a thread from which to hang. It's photographed against a white brick background.

It’s very good timing with Easter, too! I’m hoping to make some more autumnal designs inspired by this one at some point.

The egg hangs from a purple flower stem in a garden, with other purple, pink, and red flowers in the background. The embroidery and applique is visible; two light green bands are sewn across the centre of the egg, while three pink leaf shapes, and a yellow semi-circle are at each end. The leaves and semi-circles have radiating straight stitches embroidered over them, and there are multi-coloured flowers embroidered between the two green bands. On the bands are rows of multi-coloured sequins.

The original tutorial uses beads for the green bands, but in the spirit of using what I had on hand, I used sequins instead. I love how they reflect the light.

The egg sits in grass, surrounded by small chocolate eggs in pink, blue, and gold.

Happy Easter if you celebrate, and happy Sunday if you don’t!

See ya!

Yves
