Wrist Pincushion

Since I made my little blue pattern weights, I’ve wanted to make myself some more sewing kit in shades of blue. A wrist pincushion is something that I’ve thought would be useful for a while, so that was naturally the next project!

Overhead shot of a wrist pincushion, laid flat on a wood surface. The strap is navy with velcro on one end and a red button on the other. The pincushion is circular, with a blue felt button on a navy background. The pincushion has pins in it.

I found the button template in an old sewing book of mine, and made the rest of the pattern up from there.

The author's wrist is photographed against a wood background, wearing the wrist pincushion. The button is clearer now, and the red stitches making a cross in the middle are visible. The sides of the pincushion are also more visible; they are made of blue fabric with books printed on.

As in the first photo, it closes with Velcro – this red button is there for visual interest!

Close-up of the closure of the pincushion, closed around the author's wrist. The velcro is not visible, because it is under the red button that is visible.

I put two bits of Velcro on the wrist strap, so if I’m wearing thick cuffs in winter then it’ll still fit. It’s also stuffed with fabric scraps.

The author is sewing at an old sewing machine, photographed with only her lower arms visible. She wears the pincushion on the hand closest to the camera, and is in the middle of sewing a seam on a garment in progress. The pincushion has some pins in it.

So far, it has been very handy!

The author is sewing at an old sewing machine, again photographed so only her lower arms are visible. She's in the act of putting a pin into the pincushion while the machine is stopped.

As you can see, I use it when sewing on the machine….

Same forearm-shot of the author sewing at an old sewing machine. She is sewing a seam of a garment in progress, wearing the pincushion. Said pincushion is full of pins.

….but I imagine it will be most useful if I’m fitting something on myself. I do still have and use my pin tins, but you do run the risk of spilling those all over the floor if you’re not careful. No chance of that with this!

Anyways, see ya!
