2024 Year In Review

2024 ends in three days – the passage of time continues to astound me. Here we go!

January:

Close-up of the orrery in Sarah's bedroom. The five planets are of various size, and are gold, green, blue, red, and pink in colour. The bead representing the star is pearlescent. The planet wires are elevated from the gold base by a large white bead.

February:

The author stands in front of a hedge, photographed from neck to ankles. She wears a navy checked dress with a brown leather belt, and holds a straw hat with a navy band in front of her.

March:

Petra holds a potted snake plant in her arms, smiling at the camera. She's photographed against a white brick background, and wears a cream-striped long-sleeved shirt with a peach pinafore.

April:

Petra stands near the archway in Tea at Yaz's courtyard, hands in pockets. She surveys the area, which is mostly empty beyond three snake plants in one corner and a small palm tree in the foreground.

May:

Close-up of the top circle of one of the poufs in Tea at Yaz's courtyard. It has eight seams, all topstitched in white, converging at the centre beneath a small black button.

In June, I took a month off, so here is an honourary mention from July:

The author stands against a hedge, photographed from neck to knees. She wears a wrist-length cape with black pants. The cape has a large collar and two wooden buttons at the front to close it. The author's arms are raised at her sides, to spread out the fabric and fully show the cape off.

And actual July:

Close-up of the surface of the table in Tea at Yaz's courtyard. The design radiates from the central orange circle with yellow petals surrounding it. This is bordered with a wavy red line, roughly in a square shape. Four arch shapes in shades of blue extend from the red square, with pale yellow flowers and green and white petals inside. Around the outside are blue semi-circles with more pale yellow flowers in. The background is yellow, and all the shapes are thinly outlined in purple.

August:

Overhead shot of a blue patchwork zipped pouch on a wood surface. The pouch is a 45-degree angle, and is open. Spilling out from the opening are an assortment of little triangular pattern weights, in various shades and patterns of blue.

September:

The author is photogaphed from neck to thighs, standing against the white lattice. She wears a crocheted dark grey tunic with cable details over a black button-down shirt and navy pants. She's facing the camera with her hands in her pant pockets. The tunic is pushed up a bit to allow for this.

October:

Petra kneels near the base of one wall in Tea at Yaz's, running a hand over the tiles. They have an eight-pointed star design, dark brown centre with white arms to the stars. There are dark green leaves inbetween the white arms of the stars, all on a terracotta background.

November:

The author stands in front of a pale blue wall, wearing a peach top with navy pants. She is side-on to the camera, with hands in her pockets. Over her shoulder is a small, cream-coloured, circular bag.

December:

Three star-shaped Christmas decorations are laid out on a wood surface. They are each made of six diamonds of Christmas fabric, sewn into star shapes. They all have red ribbon as hanging loops, and a gold sequin sewn in the centre. From left to right, the colour schemes are: white and red, red and green, and green and black.

My goals last year were to renovate Tea at Yaz’s, make myself some button-down shirts, and improve my photography. Tea at Yaz’s is certainly coming along, and I did make over some button-down shirts for myself, which I think counts. I upgraded my camera this year, too, which has helped with improving my photography. Seeking out natural light remains important, though!

I tried lots of new things this year – bag-making, plant-making, making my own miniature wall and floor patterns, patchwork, and crocheting a garment for the first time. The best thing about trying new things is that those new things are now Skills in your Repertoire.

My miniatures continue to improve, too – Tea at Yaz’s is looking so good! I am really proud of the tabletop in the courtyard and the tile pattern on the walls inside, which I made on my laptop.

Next year, I think I would like to finish renovating Tea at Yaz’s, keep trying new things (like making a button-down shirt from scratch!), and try to get consistently good photos. Consistently good photos is going to involve planning around the good lighting; perhaps having some posts pre-photographed for gloomy days.

Anyways, see you next year!

Yves
