Frivolity with Jellyfish

You ever just want to make something quick and easy and entirely frivolous?

A blue crochet jellyfish toy is laid flat on a wood surface. Arranged in a fan shape above its body are the four cotton yarns used to construct it - pale, mid, and navy blue, and sea green. On one side of it is a turtle stitch marker, and on the other side is a blue moth stitch marker.

Well, that was the aim with this little jellyfish.

The crochet jellyfish sits on a wood surface, photographed from above. It is next to a printout of the pattern instructions, with the same two stitch markers nearby. The pattern is the Galaxy Jellyfish by SweetSofties, and the instructional text is blurred out.

I used the Galaxy Jellyfish pattern by SweetSofties on Etsy, which was a pretty easy pattern.

The author's hand holds the jellyfish, against a wood background. The body fits in her palm, and the tentacles are significantly longer. Its body is pale blue, with a mid blue frill around the bottom. Its eyes are embroidered in navy blue, and its tentacles are a mix of all the blues and sea green.

I think mine is a lot longer than the original, because I used cotton yarn from my stash rather than the silk blend the pattern uses.

The underside of the jellyfish, against a wood background. The base of the jellyfish (under the frill) is pale blue as well, and all the tentacles are attached in a circle. Some of the tentacles are straight, but most are curled.

I loved the way the tentacles were attached to the base, too! It’s a very secure method.

The four colours of yarn used to make the jellyfish are stacked, with the jellyfish seated on top. Its tentacles flow down each side of the stack. Its eyes face the camera, and the background is white brick.

I am currently accepting name suggestions for it; I’m thinking along the lines of ‘cool surfer’-style names, or something appropriately coastal. I also need to research jellyfish, because how do they do anything???

(Also don’t look too closely at the eyes – they were a last-minute decision!)

Anyways, see ya!
