2025 Year in Review

….And what do you know, the calendar rolls around again. Let’s review this year on MLIM, or as the kids say, release MLIM Wrapped 2025!

January:

A hook roll is unrolled on a flat surface, photographed from above. It contains a lot of hooks, and a pair of scissors. The lining fabric is grey, and the outer fabric is light grey with birds, red foliage, and small gold stars on.

February:

The author stands in front of a hedge, photographed from neck to hips. She holds a large crocheted stuffed toy of Appa from Avatar: The Last Airbender under one arm. Appa is a bison-esque creature, white with a dark face and brown markings on his back. He has horns, six legs, and a large, flat tail.

March:

The author stands in front of a pLe blue wall, photographed from neck to ankles. She wears a dark pink midi-length dress, with small floral zigzags all over. The dress buttons up the front bodice, and is three-quarter sleeved.

April:

An assortment of brightly-dyed socks are laid flat on a wood surface, photographed from above. Some are ankle-length, others are longer.

May:

The author stands in front of a hedge, photographed from waist to ground. She wears a pair of patchworked, quilted, elastic-waisted pants with a flannel shirt tucked in and brown boots. Her hands are in the pockets of the pants, whose fabrics are an assortment of blues in various shades and prints.

June:

Interior of Tea at Yaz's, showing the window booth. On the back of the booth seat closest to camera is a lattice with a vining plant growing up it. It screens the occupants of the booth, who at the moment are Petra and Sarah.

July:

The author stands in front of a hedge, photographed from neck to ankles. She faces away from the camera, with a crocheted blanket wrapped around her. The blanket is made of long strips with a Celtic knotwork design. The strips alternate between navy, purple, and green.

August:

Hazel sits on a rock, legs swinging and one hand braced for balance. She's wearing a black skirt with a pink floral pattern, a green puff-sleeved shirt, and white shoes. She's looking to the right, into the middle distance.

September:

Two felt bookmarks are laid flat on a wood surface, photographed from above. They look like two mugs of hot beverages, one mug red and one blue. Connected to them with ribbon are two tags; one a teabag label and the other a coffee bean.

October:

The author stands in front of a hedge, photographed fron neck to hips. She's wearing a floral button-down shirt tucked into pale grey pants. The shirt is navy with pink, cream, and peach florals, and is long-sleeved. The author is fiddling with one of the cuffs.

November:

Six piles of crochet granny squares are arranged in a circle around a small notecard on a wood surface, photographed from above. The card tracks the progression of a blanket. The squares are peach, purple, and grey.

December:

Three embroidered Christmas decorations are laid flat on a wood surface, next to a small iPad. Photographed from above, the decorations are heavily embroidered and beaded. The iPad has an image on the screen of similar decorations, used to guide a tutorial from a magazine.

Last year I wanted to finish renovating Tea at Yaz’s, keep trying new things, and try to get consistently good photos. I’ve definitely finished Tea at Yaz’s, and it looks fantastic! I’m happy with the level of detail I put in, and it looks more authentic to my rather broad inspiration of “Moroccan architecture”.

I also tried loads of new things this year – making button-down shirts, crochet blankets, large-scale amigurumi crochet, patchworked quilted clothing, fabric dyeing?! Experimenting has been loads of fun, and a lot of those new things I tried were long-term projects too.

I think my photography has improved, or at least, my photo editing skills have improved. Technology is finicky, I find, but it’s definitely worth waiting for/working to find the right lighting for photos. Having a bank of backup posts is also very helpful.

So, next year! I think I would like to try building up a little backlog of posts for myself, so if the lighting is terrible for photos I have something up my sleeve. I also want to try more new things, like making a jacket, maybe releasing a new pattern or two, stuff like that.

Anyways, see you next year!

Yves
