Blanket the Second

Guess what I finished last week?

The author stands in front of a hedge, mostly obscured by the crocheted blanket she's holding. The blanket is made of peach, purple, and grey squares, and is rectangular. The squares are arranged in diagonal rows from bottom-left to top-right.

Ta-daaa! My second crocheted blanket, definitely ready for use when it gets cold.

The author stands in front of a hedge, with the crocheted blanket loosely tossed over one forearm. She's photographed from shoulders to ground, and is wearing green linen top to toe. The blanket's border is in the colours used in the blanket itself, and is quite simple.

The pattern I used is from Simply Crochet #146, and is the “Sleeping Beauty” blanket by Marianne Rawlins. The example blanket only uses 36 squares, but I ended up making 108.

The author stands in front of a hedge, facing away from the camera. She has the crocheted blanket wrapped around her shoulders, and it covers the majority of her body. (The back of her head and her heels are visible at each end of the blanket.)

I used cotton yarn, like my other blanket, and I purchased said yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills. BWM’s balls are 200g/400~m, so they’re fantastic for this sort of large, limited-colour-palette project.

Close-up of the blanket, neatly folded in the author's arms. The border is four rows of plain crochet, done into the back loop so there is a ridge between each colour. The squares are a little bit lacy, and are connected with the grey yarn.

I feel like I’ve passed a crochet rite of passage, having made a square-motif blanket. (I should make a Girl Guides badge or a rosette or something….)

The crocheted blanket is folded neatly and draped over the back of an armchair in a corner inside the author's house. The armshair has navy upholstery, and is made of wood. Also on the armchair is a rectangular cushion, longer than it is wide, with a hexagonal patchworked cover. Just visible to the left is a small table, with a small mess on it.

At the moment, it is living on the back of my armchair….

The crocheted blanket is messily draped over one arm of the armchair, mostly obscuring the hexagon patchwork cushion.

….though this is a more realistic image, to be honest.

There’s nothing like the satisfaction of finishing a large project. Now I need to figure out what to make with the leftover yarn – surprisingly, there is quite a bit….. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

Anyways, see ya!
