Sarah’s Orrery

Happy New Year! I managed to finish up a few things in the last few days of last year, so I’ll be posting them this month while I continue in the background. First thing is that Sarah’s bedroom is done!*

Wide-angle shot of Sarah's bedroom. Sarah is on her bed, stretched out, reading a book. Chip sits beside her on the bed. Sarah's red shoes are at the foot of the bed. To the left is her desk, messy as always with the chair tucked in. One of the legs of her telescope is just visible beside the desk.

*for now. šŸ™‚

Close-up of Sarah sitting at her desk. She's photographed over the shoulder, so we can see roughly what she sees. She is looking at the miniature orrery on the desk's top upper shelf. It has five planets on five wires extending out from the centre, upright wire. Near the top of this wire is a star, and the whole thing is on a flat gold base.

As part of the ‘finishing’ touches, I made this little orrery for Sarah’s desk.

Close-up of just the orrery. The five planets are of various size, and are gold, green, blue, red, and pink in colour. The bead representing the star is pearlescent. The planet wires are elevated from the gold base by a large white bead.

It’s made of beads, wire, jewellery supplies, and a button. All the planets move, which I’m very pleased with! I was inspired by the orreries that @moonlightingnz on Instagram made a little while ago.

Overhead shot of Sarah's desk, as she is sitting at it to write. At desk level is also a large astronomy book, held open with a coloured gemstone, a ruler, and various scrolls and papers. On the shelf is the orrery, a stack of papers weighted down with another gemstone, a candle, another gemstone, and an inkjar.

Particularly keen-eyed viewers will also note that Sarah’s desk is missing the central shelf support. It’s also slightly smaller; I shaved off a bit of the sides so it fits in the box when I store this room.

Wide-angle shot of Sarah in her room, standing on her carpet holding an open notebook. Chip is on her bed, to Sarah's right, head elevated and looking at her. She wears her pale blue playsuit with white lace along the leg hems.

She’s still got plenty of space to plot stars, and write down observations, and discuss celestial events with Chip. And complete assignments, let’s be real.

I would also like to make a trunk of some kind, to put things like clothes and shoes in, as well as more trinkets and books to fill those shelves to truly finish the room. But they can come another (hopefully soon!) day.

Anyways, see ya!
