New Year, New (Old) Clothes

First of all, Happy New Year!

The week or so between Christmas and New Year is a great time to get some mending in, and I made some modifications to two items.

Remember this skirt of Petra’s from 2021?

Petra stands outside in grass, with a dark wood fence behind her. She is twirling in place, so that the blue-and-orange floral skirt she's wearing flares out. She wears it with a beige pirate shirt and brown boots.

When I made it, there were two problems: the waistband was too tight, and there was a lot of volume.

Petra stands in front of a white brick background, smiling at the camera. She has her hands behind her back, and is wearing the same blue-and-orange skirt with a beige-and-white striped top and brown boots.

So I took out a little bit of the volume (I do have an upper limit to skirt volume, surprisingly) and I made a new, longer waistband.

Close-up of the back of the skirt Petra wears. The waistband is secured with a small square of Velcro, and the skirt back pieces overlap.

I took the volume out of the centre front and the centre back, because the pockets had to stay.

Petra stands outside in grass, with a dark hedge in the background. She wears the blue-and-orange skirt with the beige top and brown boots. She's looking to the right of the camera, one hand shading her eyes and the other by her side.

Petra is much comfier in it now!

Second garment I fixed was this green dress of Hazel’s:

Hazel stands in front of a white brick background. She wears a midi-length khaki green dress with puffed sleeves and white shoes. She;s looking to the right of the camera with one hand behind her neck and the other at her side.

The waist seam was just too low on Hazel. So, I separated the two pieces, added volume to the skirt, and then had the idea to make them two separate pieces.

Hazel (again) stands in front of a white brick background. She wears the khaki green dress again, with white shoes, again. She's got her hands behind her back and is smiling at the camera. The dress has more volume in the skirt and a waistband at the waist.

Now they work together as a dress….

Hazel wears the puff-sleeved bodice of the khaki dress with a beige-and-white striped skirt (and white shoes). Her hands are in the skirt's pockets and she's smiling at the camera.

Or Hazel can wear the bodice and skirt separately with other clothes.

Hazel wears the skirt of the khaki dress with a pink-and-white floral sleeveless shirt, while smiling at the camera.

Hazel loves it! Which is good, because now I’m eyeing the rest of her dresses to see which ones are candidates for being made into separates….

Anyways, see ya!
