Long Live Perfectly Functional Headphones

These have been my trusty headphones for years and years. So long, in fact, that the plastic “leather” that covers the cushions on the earmuffs and overhead bit started flaking away, so I had to make these crocheted covers for them.

The author's over-head headphones are laid flat on a white surface. They are black, and have colourful crocheted covers over the cushioned earmuffs and overhead bit.

However, they look a bit…… dated, shall we say. And believe me, the plastic “leather” continues to flake away.

Close-up of one of the earmuffs without its crocheted cover. The plastic leather is flaking away from the foam underneath, and it's kind of gross.

Therefore, I had to crochet some new covers. This one for the overhead bit is meant to look like a mossy log; I used surface crochet to do the green bits of “moss” while it was flat.

I also made two sets of earmuff covers! So, if one set has to go in the wash, there is another set to switch out for comfortable, not-covered-in-fake-leather ears.

Four earmuff covers are laid flat on a white surface. Two are red with white spots, like a classic mushroom cap. The other two are mid-brown, with dark brown edges and dark brown circles crocheted on, to look like tree rings on a slice of tree trunk.

These ones are meant to look like tree rings, you know when you slice a tree trunk sideways?

And I made your classic Amanita muscaria mushroom caps, because of course. These are slightly less comfortable than the tree rings, because the white spots are wool.

Next time, I’ll make them out of cotton yarn. Or if you want to try something similar – make sure the fibre you use is comfortable for your ears!

Anyways, see ya!
