Unkillable Houseplants

Final stages of assembly….

A crocheted plant in mid-assembly on a wood surface, photographed from above. There is a curl of green wire, a glass jar with crocheted leaves in, another jar with water in, a roll of florists' tape, a pair of scissors, a loose leaf, a half-assembled vine, and the instructions for the project in the bottom left corner of the image.

….and complete! This is the crocheted ivy plant pattern by Pippa Patterns on Etsy. I wanted to make it as a housewarming gift for a friend who has moved into her first home.

The completed crochet ivy plant is stacked on two large books, on a white surface, with a wooden fence as the background. The plant's leaves are dark green with light green edges, and it spills over the edges of a white pot.

This plant is made of three vines, which go through holes in this circular piece of cardboard I glued into the top of this white plant pot.

Close-up of the pot from above. Three of the leaves are visible up close, but under them is shredded brown paper, to act as soil.

The cardboard is covered in “soil”, aka ripped up brown packaging paper.

Close-up of one of the smaller leaves at the end of a vine. The leaf curls realistically, and has the five points typical of an ivy plant.

The leaves have wire crocheted around the edges (under the lighter green outside), so they hold their shape well.

Close-up of part of one of the vines. Said vine is wrapped in dark green florists' tape, with a small piece of wire curving up to connect to the leaf. The leaf stem is wrapped in dark green yarn.

The ends of the outside wire are used as stems for the leaves, and got wrapped with florists’ tape to thicker wire.

Another angle of the ivy plant in full, on top of two large books, on a white surface and with a fence as the background. The three vines that make up the plant are visibly distinct.

This is the first time I’ve crocheted a plant, and I’m really happy with it! The pattern is very realistic, and I got to use florists’ tape for the first time. I’d definitely make another ivy plant for my bookshelves, it’s just a case of finding the time. And my friend loved her gift!

Anyways, see ya!
