Last Minute Winter Warmers

I thought I should sneak these gloves into the posting schedule before winter (according to the calendar) ends!

Three pairs of knitted fingerless gloves are laid flat on a wood surface, photographed from above. Left to right, they are dark grey, pale grey, and a soft shade of purple. They have ribbing at the top and bottom, and are plain in-between.

I made them over the course of the last few weeks because my hands get very cold in the mornings.

The three gloves are laid flat on a wood surface, arranged neatly around issue 32 of Pip Permaculture magazine.

The pattern came from Pip magazine, which is an Australian permaculture magazine. This is issue 32, and the pattern is by Cindy Minahan.

The author's hand, wearing one of the dark grey gloves, holds the magazine open to the pattern used to make the gloves.

I made this dark grey pair first, with leftover Bendigo Woollen Mills Classic 8ply from my crochet tunic. I figured out from this pair that I have long hands, and I needed to lengthen the pattern by four rows.

The author's hand, wearing one of the dark grey gloves, is face down on the wood surface, next to the other glove and the ball of dark grey yarn used to make the gloves.

I added four rows to the top ribbing of these ones, because I didn’t want to unravel anything, but the next pair I made (the purple ones below) I added the length to the plain stocking stitch part.

These purple ones were made with alpaca yarn, leftover from a handmade gift a few years ago. This is definitely the softest pair!

The author's hand, wearing one of the purple gloves, is gently holding the leftover yarn used to make the purple gloves. Beside her hand, on the wood surface, is the other purple glove.

And the third pair I made were these pale grey ones.

The author's hand, wearing one of the pale grey gloves, rests on top of the other pale grey glove on a wood surface. Beside her hand is the ball of yarn used to make the gloves.

This yarn was donated to me from a friend a few years ago, and is called Moda Vera Selva. It’s chunkier than the other two yarns, so I had to use bigger needles. As I finished these, we had a warm change, so I haven’t actually worn them yet. I do like how chunky they are – they should be nice and warm on the really cold days.

This week is meant to be a bit cooler, so here’s hoping I’ll get one last spin out of these before summer comes!

Anyways, see ya!
