Crochet Baby Comforter

Remember when I was talking about gifts that needed to be kept secret a couple of weeks ago?

A disassembled crochet toy is laid flat on a wood surface. It has two ears beside its head, as well as two arms and a blanket folded into a square-ish shape below. All of the ends are loose.

Well, this gift has been received, so I can post about my first handmade baby toy!

A crocheted zebra baby toy sits on a stuffed project bag, in front of a white brick background. It is a comforter, so its body is a blanket of black, white, and yellow stripes with a scalloped edge. It also has a blue bow around its neck.

He’s a baby comforter, so his head and arms are sewn to the centre of a small blanket. (Which would be really pretty on its own, actually.)

The zebra baby comforter is photographed from above on a wood surface. Its blanket body has been spread out flat beneath its head and arms. The black and white stripes, yellow scallops, and yellow puff stitches in the blanket are all visible.

I gave him a little blue bow around his neck, because the recipient is having a boy.

Close-up of the bow around the toy's neck. It's pale blue satin ribbon, tied in a boe under the toy's chin.

The author's hand holds the zebra toy in front of a wood background. The toy's face is facing the camera; it has black embroidered eyes.

The pattern was designed by Kelly Browning, and I sourced it from one of my craft magazines. This one was probably published about 10 years ago.

The zebra baby toy is laid next to an open magazine page, on a wood surface. The magazine is open to the cover page for the pattern for the toy. There are two similar crocheted comforters on the page: one the zebra, the other a yellow lion with pink accents.

I’m very happy I finally got to use one of the multitude of baby crafts in my magazine collection! This little guy is very cute – I had him sitting on my desk for a few weeks, and I had to work hard to maintain a professional distance and not get attached so I could give him away.

However, I think the itch to make more crochet toys has hit me – I have quite the list of future Little Guys in my head. (There are also thoughts of releasing patterns floating around that list…..)

Anyways, see ya!
