Hummingbirds

Today, I bring you my seventh version of the V&A Shirt, and only the second blue one I’ve made.

The author stands in front of a white lattice, photographed from neck to hips. She's wearing a pale blue, long-sleeved shirt tucked into navy pants. The shirt has four pearlescent buttons on the button placket, which extends halfway down her torso. It also has a collar stand, and no collar.

Only two blue shirts made is an impressive achievement, considering I have to physically restrain myself from purchasing blue fabric.

The author stands in front of a white lattice, photographed from neck to hips. She's wearing the same pale blue shirt tucked into navy pants. She's facing away from the camera, so the back of the shirt is visible. It has an inverted box pleat at centre back, beneath the yoke.

I caved in this instance because the pattern is so lovely – can you spot the little hummingbirds?

Close-up of the print of the pale blue shirt. There are flowers and foliage in a variety of different shapes, with hummingbirds flying in-between them. This is all in shades of dark blue, turquoise, pale and dark pink, and yellow. The scale of the print is quite small, hence the close-up.

It is (apparently) a Liberty print, and it was also very cheap cotton from one of Australia’s big box fabric stores.

I used the same shell buttons I’ve used for a number of these shirts in the past; they are very versatile! I also lengthened the hem by an extra centimetre, which will hopefully mean it stays tucked in a little better.

My previous six shirts are here, and this is certainly not the last one I will make! I do have other garments in the pipeline at the moment, so if all these shirts are getting repetitive, do stick around. I promise I make other things too!

Anyways, see ya!
