Book Nook

The one thing that could enhance your average bookshelf (other than more books) is, in my opinion, a book nook. These are small boxes with little scenes inside that can be used as bookends or, in my case, to divide genres on my bookshelf.

One shelf of the author's white bookshelf is packed tight with novels of all different colours. In-between two of them is a greenhouse book nook. The frame of the greenhouse is white, with brown stairs up to the entrance. Inside there are flowers dangling fron the ceiling, a rocking chair, and various gardening tools.

I made this between Christmas and New Year, but I’ve only just got around to taking photos of it. I definitely don’t have the shelf space for it, but it’s far too nice to hide away!

Close-up of the greenhouse book nook interior. The rocking chair and some smaller items have been removed, so the interior is easier to see. There are small tables, shelving units, chests of drawers all packed with pot plants, plant books, plant posters, etc. There are some pot plants on the floor, one on the step outside the greenhouse entrance, and a free-standing floor lamp.

This little greenhouse was a kit; the company manufactures a few different book nook kits. I chose this one because I find making miniature plants difficult. This kit has all the plants made for you!

Close-up of the greenhouse book nook while it's being built. Only the very back of the greenhouse is assembled; on the left is a lattice wall and a curved staircase. At the top of the stairs is a yellow door, left ajar. Beside the door is a small table with more pot plants on and beside it, and there is a metal watering can on the table. In front of this elevated area is a blue chest of drawers, again with pot plants on top and plant posters inside. It's behind the rocking chair in earlier images.

There are so many cool details, and I took many (many) progress pictures to try and capture them all.

(This window is one of the best details!)

The greenhouse sits in the author's bookshelf again, everything inside it once more. The interior of the greenhouse is lit by electronic lights, one overhead and one in the floor lamp. The surrounding bookshelf is dimly lit.

It’s also my first time working with electricity in miniatures – another reason for the kit. I love that it lights up!

Close-up of the front of the book nook, from where it sits in the author's bookshelf. The yellow and brown rocking chair is back in, with a black-and-white checked cushion and blanket on it. In front is a basket of posters, a spade, and a pair of red boots with a plant in. Above the chair is an abundantly flowering wisteria vine.

I have loads more ideas for book nooks – a captain’s room on a pirate ship, definitely a library, maybe an artist’s studio too. The scale is smaller than Sarah and her friends, but I think it’d be a nice change of pace every now and again.

Anyways, see ya!
