Summer Gingham

I’ve had this fabric in my stash for a little while, thinking it would lovely as a dress for Hazel.

Hazel stands in front of a white brick bcakground. She wears a pale blue/white checked top with short sleeves, and a matching gathered skirt. She's smoothing down the gathers while smiling at the camera.

And do you know what? I was right!

Close-up of Hazel's top. Focus is on the centre front, which has a fold and three small white knots to look like buttons. The top has a V-neckline, and the sleeves are fairly snug against her arms.

I tried making a fake button-closure at the front, which worked well. The buttons are very small French knots – I don’t think you can get buttons this small!

Hazel stands outside, with a mossy terracotta pot as her background. She's wearing the pale blue/white checked skirt with a white floral top and white shoes. She smiles at the camera with her hands in the skirt's pockets. Some of her braids are pulled forward over her shoulders.

Yes, this dress looks lovely worn together, but I reckon it looks even better worn as separates.

Hazel stands in front of the mossy terracotta pot, wearing the same pale blue checked skirt and floral top as before. She's twirling in place, making her hair and her skirt swing out with momentum.

(Of course, the skirt has pockets.)

Hazel stands in front of a terracotta pot, near a cascading vine with white and green leaves. She wears the top of the pale blue/white check dress with a cream/white striped skirt. She's photographed from head to thighs, cupping one of the leaves of the vine in her hand.

You can also see I’ve done a cool folded-up cuff situation on the sleeves. These have been tacked on the underside, so they stay in place.

Hazel leans back against the terracotta pot, smiling at the camera with her hands behind her back. She's wearing the blue checked top and cream skirt from before. Next to her is the green and white cascading vine.

This pale blue colour is a very summery colour, especially in gingham checks! I am also definitely sold on making Hazel’s dresses a bodice and skirt from now on – this was lots of fun to make. And fun to style, too. Now to tackle the rest of her wardrobe!

Anyways, see ya!
