Away With Boring White Socks

What is one to do when one is faced with boring white work socks and a four-day weekend?

Five pairs of white socks are photographed from above on a newspaper-covered surface. Each pair is folded neatly in half. There are three shorter pairs and two longer pairs.

Dye them bright colours, of course!

A pair of socks is in the middle of being dyed, photographed from above on a newspaper-covered surface. The socks are scrunched up on each end of a short-ish length of poly pipe, with a towel at the bottom of the picture. A spray bottle of water and a plastic basket with dyes in dripper bottles is also on the newspaper. The socks on the pipe are being dyed with pink and purple stripes.

It’s nice and sunny, so they dried in about a day or so. The spray bottle was to dampen the socks, so the dye would take.

The sock-covered ends of three pipes sit on a flat, sturdy, wire washing line, with grass in the background. From the foreground, the socks are dyed green and blue, pink and purple, and pink and green. The sun is shining on the socks and the grass.

A good iron to set the dye, and they are done! Here are the short socks….

Three pairs of 1/4 length crew socks are laid flat on a wood surface. Left to right, they are dyed pink and purple, pink and green, and blue and green. They are also striped horizontally with irregular lighter and darker sections.

….. and here are the long ones.

Two pairs of long crew socks are laid flat on a wood surface. One pair is dyed pink, red, and yellow, and the other is blue, green, and purple. These are also striped horizontally with irregular lighter and darker stripes.

They look so much better than they were!

All the socks are arranged in an organised mess of a flatlay on a wood surface.

You can tell the long socks are a bit paler than the short ones, because I was trying to stretch the last few bits of dye out. Scrunching them the way I did on the pipes made such a cool zebra-stripe effect, too. I have some white ankle socks in my wardrobe that are looking distinctly less safe now….

Anyways, see ya!
