Grey Flowers

Surprise! I made another V&A shirt!

The author stands in front of a hedge, photographed from neck to thighs. She is wearing a button-down long-sleeved shirt with black pants, and has her hands in her pockets. The shirt is grey-blue, with large white flowers and darker blue stems and leaves.

I think this is number six or so? I really should count them.

Close-up of the top half of the shirt. The flowers are clearer, and detailing lines in the middle are visible. There are three visible shell buttons on the button placket, and the collarless collar stand sits close to the author's neck.

This gorgeous fabric came from Sapling Textiles (purveyors of similarly stunning fabrics), and is a very lightweight cotton.

The author stands in front of a hedge, photographed from neck to thighs. She has her back to the camera, so the back of the shirt is visible. A box pleat lines up with the centre seam of the back yoke over the shoulders. The shirt is tucked into the author's black pants.

It is also a (very subtle) directional print, so I had to make the decision to put a seam in the middle of the back yoke. The other option was an unseamed yoke, but with the print going sideways; I wanted the print going the same direction across all the big panels.

Close-up of the back shoulder and neck area of the shirt, which is laid flat on a wood surface. The centre-back yoke seam is clearer, as is the box pleat. The pattern doesn't continue smoothly from body to yoke, but it isn't too jarring.

I don’t think it’s too obvious, and lining the seam up with the pleat makes it look intentional.

The author stands in front of a hedge, photographed from neck to thighs. She is in the middle of rolling up one of the sleeves of her shirt, having rolled the other one up already.

I feel like I know this pattern pretty well now, to the point where it’s (almost completely) a relaxing make. The next item of clothing I have planned will be a bit more challenging than this, so stay tuned!

Anyways, see ya!
