Summer Preparations

Remember that “simple yet endlessly useful project” from a few weeks ago? Well, they are (finally) all complete. They don’t look like much laid out like this….

Thirteen folded squares of colourful fabrics are laid on a wood surface in two rows. All the fabrics are in light shades, and in a variety of patterns and colours (eg. white/green/blue with floral patterns, white with radishes, grey/white with paisleys).

….but they do take on their uses once unfolded!

The author stands against a white lattice, photographed from head to waist. She has one of the fabric squares (green with white florals) tied around her neck, like a neckerchief. She's looking to the right of shot, and has an image of a daisy over her face. She is also wearing a black shirt.

I plan to use all thirteen of these squares as neckerchiefs – to protect my neck from the sun, and to keep me cool during this upcoming El Niño summer in my hemisphere.

The author stands against a white lattice, facing away from the camera. The green and white neckerchief is visible covering the base of her neck, just above her shirt's collar.

Some of them were sourced from my scraps, and some of them were purchased. There’s a mix of fat quarters and 50cm-lengths-from-the-bolt among the purchased ones, so some of the neckerchiefs are more rectangular than others.

Two of the floral neckerchiefs are laid out on top of each other on a wood surface. One (blue with white/yellow florals) is longer and wider than the other (white with pink/brown/green florals).

I have so many, I could wrap some over my head for ~fashion~ purposes, too.

The author stands against a white lattice, facing sideways to the camera. She's got another neckerchief folded into a triangle and tied around her head, like a headscarf. (The neckerchief is grey with white and dark grey florals.) She has one hand up to adjust the front edge of the fabric, concealing her face.

The Cottagecore Headscarf(tm) approach does also fit under a hat, so it’s a compelling use.

How did you, or do you plan to, keep cool this summer?

Anyways, see ya!

Yves
