Tea at Yaz’s Renovation

That is right, friends, the niggling feeling that ‘I could do that [miniature building] so much better’ returns! This time, Tea at Yaz’s is due for a facelift. It’s the first store along this little street that I made, so I think it deserves a bit of love.

Shot of the exterior of Tea at Yaz's, on a cobblestoned street. The store has dark wood panelling on the exterior, with a black sign above the door and window. There is a lamppost next to the door, and the store is flanked by other businesses.

At the moment, I’ve just completed the facade, and I left a lot of the bare bones intact. The sign at the top has been painted, and the teacups on the sides are new.

Close-up of the top half of the door to Tea at Yaz's. The door is wood, with a light gold frame. Panels in the door are latticed, and something green is just visible behind the top panel's lattice. There is also a black door handle.

It’s a fresh door, with lattice panels and a new door handle. I drew this little wall-hanging vine-y plant to sit behind the top part of the door lattice; I’m really happy with it, so I took a photo for posterity.

A corner of a piece of paper, on which is drawn a vine-y plant in a woven wall-hanging basket.

The window was also looking very boring, so I added working shutters to it! These also have lattice, like the door.

Petra stands in front of Tea at Yaz's, holding open one of the windoe shutters. She's looking into the window, wearing a cream-striped shirt under a peach pinafore dress. The shutters are lattice, with gold frames and a black latch. The latch is raised on the other shutter, which still obscures the view into the building.

It’s always fun to imagine what the interior could look like before I actually get stuck in. I’ve taken lots of inspiration from Moroccan riads, both for this interior and all the lattice.

The view into the building, flanked by the open shutters. The window is flanked by purple curtains, behind which is a window booth. Beyond, there are more booths, another plant in a wall-hanging basket, and the opening to the courtyard. The walls are white on the top half, and tiled on the bottom half. The floor is large terracotta tiles. Leaves of a palm plant spill into the scene from the left side.

The hinges are something I learnt for this project, and I’ll definitely use them again!

Petra stands outside Tea at Yaz's, hands in pockets, smiling as she looks at the exterior. The shutters are closed.

I can’t wait to get stuck in to the interior! The plan is to have it look something like the view in from the shutters, which means the yellow walls will be going. I’ll also need to make a lot more plants for all those wall baskets! Speaking of plants, I think I’ll also make some for the facade, it’s looking a little monochrome. Maybe a little window box?

Anyways, see ya!
