Betwixtmas Mending

I find that Betwixtmas, as well as being a great time for sewing, is also a great time for mending.

The insides of a navy striped waistcoat are laid flat on a wood surface. Strips of black cotton tape are pinned to the inside, and a needle is in the process of stitching them down. Above the waistcoat is a pincushion.

I made this striped waistcoat a few years ago, before I thought to put twill tape along the fold line of the lapels.

The author stands in front of a lattice with a green vine growing up it. She's photographed from neck to waist, and is wearing the striped navy waistcoat with a white button-down shirt. She has angled herself so the shawl collar of the waistcoat is most visible.

Good thing I had some spare twill tape in my stash! I think the collar sits a lot better now; it’s a very subtle difference, but it makes me happy.

Close-up of the side seams of a pair of dark grey linen pants, laid on a wood surface. Two areas of wear at the seams are circled with light blue graphics.

I also made some additional repairs to this pair of pants – I’ve already patched them once (see the moth patch, and here), but I noticed some more areas of wear and tear.

A sewing project is spread out on a wood surface. Centred is a small piece of dark grey fabric being embroidered with a moth, with supplies for the embroidery to the right. To the left of the embroidery is the dark grey pants, and above is a small tablet with an image of a moth being displayed.

And, in keeping with the moth theme….

The author stands in front of a lattice with a vine growing up it. In frame is a closeup of one of the pockets of the dark grey pants as the author wears them. At the seam, roughly over where the wear was earlier, is an embroidered moth patch. The author's hand is in the nearby pocket.

….I added some more moths.

The author stands in front of a lattice with a vine growing up it. In frame is a closeup the other pocket of the dark grey pants as the author wears them. Above the previous moth patch is another, smaller, embroidered mtoh patch.

These pants have been going strong for four years now, so I’m happy to keep maintaining them like this. And I love the little touch of whimsy they have now! I’m excited to repair some of my other pants in a similar way – I’m thinking of doing one pair with a kite, and maybe some sashiko on another….

Anyways, see ya!
