Hazel’s Birthday Gift

Hazel’s birthday is tomorrow! She’s organised to meet with her friends and eat a lot of baked goods, which sounds like the ideal day, to me.

Hazel stands against a white brick background, holding a chocolate cake on a gold plate in her hands. There are graphics overlaid on the picture; one is a party hat, placed on her head. The others are the words 'Happy Birthday', some confetti, and a floral garland, all arranged in the white space around Hazel.

As it is a weekday tomorrow, I’ve given Hazel her gift today – this pinafore dress.

Hazel stands against a white brick background, holding a peach checked pinafore dress up to herself. She's in a grey cardigan and a wool skirt, and looks down at the dress.

I tried out a new facing method on it with ribbon, which worked quite well. It’s very fiddly, but doable.

Close-up of the interior of the top edge of the pinafore. A line of pale pink ribbon has been stitched over the hem edge, concealing the raw edges. The two straps match the fabric.

I was hoping to get more pleats out of the skirt, too, but it’s alright for now. I can add a piece to the centre front in the future if I really want to.

Hazel stands against a white brick background, smiling at the camera. She wears the peach pinafore over her white floral dress, one hand to her chest and the other in one of the in-seam pockets.

It’s a little short for this dress, but definitely still cute! Hazel likes it, though it is more of a spring/autumn piece. Give it a few weeks, H, and you’ll be wearing it day in, day out.

Anyways, see ya!
