Personalising with Pansies

Remember that little cross-stitching I was doing in my last Project Roundup?

The plan is to use it to replace the logo on this straw hat I purchased for gardening.

The original logo was on a patch, sort of, which was glued and sewn onto the hat. Step one of this process was removing the logo patch!

I covered the back of my stitching with cotton fleece left over from other projects, and I stiffened both front and back by gathering them around a circle of clear plastic.

Then, I sewed them together with all the gathering and exposed threads on the inside….

The author is wearing the straw hat from earlier, standing in front of a hedge. The hat's logo on the centre front has been removed and replaced with the complete cross-stitched pansy wreath.

….and stitched it to the hat, exactly where the logo was.

I think it looks much better than the logo did! It would have been nice to have a green border around the stitching, to link it to the rest of the hat, but I didn’t want to make my stitching much bigger than the original patch. Now I just need to road-test it once the weather warms up a bit. Which will hopefully be in a few months. *ahem*
